POSTERITY BECKONS: A Poem By Matthew Ayibakuro

In plains of Bayelsa
Away from the twisty creeks
Where children play in darkness
And mothers cook from whence they wash
Posterity beckons

She watches
As she has through the decades
As the chosen proceed to choose
With pockets brimming
And consciences heaving

In the plains of Bayelsa
She who sees all
Knows all
Judges all
And forgives none
Beckons one more time

Shall we bring her shame?
Or glory?
Tell me brother
Show me sister
I await you on the other side
At the feet of Woyein
