Rangers have confirmed the signing of ex-Arsenal wonderkid Malcolm Ebiowei after he left the Gunners late last year.
Ebiowei was highly-rated at the Emirates and it was surprising to some observers when he parted ways with the Premier League giants in October.
The 16-year-old has represented both England and Netherlands at youth international level, as well as training with Nigeria – and it has been reported that his involvement with the Nigerian under-17s played a part in his Arsenal exit.
Manchester City, Man United, Everton have all been credited with an interest in the teen in the past and he recently had a trial with West Ham United.
Despite his young age, he made his debut for Arsenal’s under-18 side in August, still aged 15, giving an idea of how highly regarded he was at the Gunners.
“I’m delighted to have signed for this great club,” Ebiowei told Rangers TV.
“I know it’s very big and happy to see what the future holds. The fanbase and the fans (attracted him to Ibrox). I’ve heard it is one of the biggest clubs and I’ve seen the fans on multiple videos. I love it.
“I’ve seen that Steven Gerrard likes to bring up the youths if they work hard and I’d like to take that chance.”
The Gers’ have made fantastic strides at youth level in recent seasons and attracting another talented youngster such as Ebiowei is another step in the right direction.
The club haven’t given any details on how long his contract will run or which age group he’ll be joining, although it seems likely he’ll join David McCallum’s under-18s.
