The Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen Douye Diri has explained why his government is yet to initiate any meaningful developmental projects in the state after seven months in office.
Speaking at the opening of the 3rd session of the Bayelsa State Executive Council Meeting, the Governor disclosed that his government is still at the planning stage.
According to Diri his administration does not want to hurriedly start any critical projects.
SAYELBA.com recalls that Diri who was the sitting Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the red chamber of the National Assembly was sworn in as Governor of Bayelsa State on February 14, 2020 following the nullification of the Bayelsa Governorship election where APC’s David Lyon emerged winner.
Many Bayelsans have critical the government’s lack of projects despite receiving Billions in Federal Allocations and 13 billion Naira in Loans.
The latest to join those questioning the Diri administration’s seeming inertia is John Idumange, a former General Manager of the Bayelsa Broadcasting Corporation and ally of former Governor Seriake Dickson who is widely believed to be Didi’s Godfather.
In Diri’s words:
“I am aware that people are yearnings for projects. We don’t want to hurriedly start any critical project. We are in a planning stage at the Executive meeting level. We don’t want to fail and that is why we are planning. Immediately after setting up our exco, we have started planning for projects that are desirable and sustainable for our people. Our people should be more patient with us”.
