The veteran Nigerian forward came off the bench to score the winner for the Royals in their English FA Cup fifth round win yesterday.
Nigeria’s Yakubu Aiyegbeni was on target on his debut for Reading as they caged hosts Derby County 2-1 in an English FA Cup fifth round match played at the Pride Park.
In an all-Championship encounter, the hosts were set back by debutant Stephen Warnock’s second yellow card near the end of the first half.
The extra man’s advantage looked to be telling in the second half, Hal Robson-Kanu firing home for the Royals after picking up a cross from the right-hand side, but Darren Bent got one back on the hour.
While it looked like the game was heading for a draw, Yakubu who was a 72nd minute replacement for Jamie Mackie made the difference with his 81st minute goal firing the visitors into the last eight.
The Nigerian hitman has found the net on his last four debuts in England.
